Achillea tomentosa is a tidy and dense groundcover with charming leaves that resemble little silvery-green fox tails.  In warm months, the foliage is complimented by sunny yellow flower heads.  Once established, Wooly Yarrow needs little care beyond the removal of spent blossoms.  Grazing animals like rabbits and deer tend to leave the bitter leaves alone, while the local butterfly population will eagerly visit the blooms.  Too much water can be an issue for this one; good drainage is important.  Achillea tomentosa works very well in a rock garden, or anywhere the xeriscaping needs a touch of softness.
