A BIT MORE...

A compact form of Amelanchier alnifolia, this small tree or shrub will provide interest in nearly every season. In the spring, clusters of beautiful white to pink flowers appear in profusion before leaf-out. The leaves are purplish when they first emerge, ageing to bluish green above and gray-green below. They are rounded, and finely toothed. The blue berries make their debut in the summer. The fruit of the ‘Regent’ variety are known to be larger and sweeter than others. Birds will flock to them in droves. In the fall, the leaves turn yellow to red. At only 4-6 feet tall, this dwarf variety is excellent in a container, in a mixed border, or as a hedge. It will tolerate partial shade and dry soil but it grows best in full sun with regular water. It tends to grow woody and benefits from a strong pruning before the leaves appear in the spring.
