A spreading evergreen shrub that grows quickly to 6 feet wide and 1-2 feet tall, it is an easy ground cover solution in western climates. A native of the Monterey area of California where it grows on the ocean slopes. The leaves are gray-green and small, a nice foil to the characteristic red bark The soft pink flowers appear in early spring or late summer. It loves full sun on the coast and some shade inland. It prefers an occasional deep soaking to getting its roots wet often. It is durable and attractive not only to humans but to birds and butterflies as well!
