A BIT MORE...

Buxus microphylla japonica “Green Beauty” is arguably the most popular shrub for low hedging. Often they are planted side by side to create a formal garden structure. Its distinctive property is its ability to retain its vibrant green foliage despite cold and hot temperatures, a claim that regular Japanese Boxwood cannot make. As a slow grower with densely allocated foliage, it allows plenty of opportunity to fashion a linear, topiary, or spherical shape by shearing or clipping. Given to a naturally rounded shape, it also has a pleasing shape if left untended. Buxus microphylla japonica “Green Beauty” will not exceed 4-6 feet in height or 3-4 feet in width, and it is very possible to keep them quite low indeed. Easy to grow in Sunset Garden zones 3b-24, this Japanese native bears nearly round small leaves of intense bright green. This shrub has the coveted distinction of being drought-tolerant as well as resistant to nematodes.
