Calliandra haematocephala, also known as the Powder Puff Bush is a tropical plant that has found favor with gardeners in areas that don’t get frost.  Native to Bolivia, it loves warm sun, and high humidity.  Protect from freezing temperatures, and Powder Puff will reward you with a flower display that starts in late fall, and keeps going through mid spring.  Flower buds emerge looking like pink raspberries, and them explode into puffs of vivid pink stamens, hence the name.  Grow Calliandra haematocephala in warm climates where some off season color is needed, and the attention of hummingbirds is welcome.
