You couldn’t come up with a better common name for Callistemon citrinus if you tried; Bottlebrush suits it perfectly.  The flowers are made up almost entirely of brilliant crimson stamens, tipped with tiny yellow anthers, which take on the shape of a bottle brush.  Those flowers are very attractive to hummingbirds, and their antics will delight viewers for hours.  Callistemon is generally seen as a bush, but occasionally trained up as a small tree and sometimes even espaliered.  Bottlebrush is capable of accommodating several kinds of landscape needs, from stand-alone specimen, to privacy hedge.  While young Bottlebrush need regular water and well balanced soil, once well established, it can handle occasional stretches of drought.
