Not to be confused with a true laurel (Laurus nobilis), the English laurel is not edible—its leaves, twigs and berries are poisonous. A native to southeastern Europe and southwestern Asia, the English Laurel is cold hardy to -5° F and is also tolerant of shade and drought. Clusters of fragrant white flowers bloom in spring.
