A Bit More

These little evergreen (annual in coldest areas) shrubs pack a colorful punch and offer plenty of bang for your landscaping buck. Among Boething Treeland Farms’ most popular shrubs, Lantana camara ‘New Gold’ will quickly become 2-3 feet tall with a 6-8 foot spread, bearing an abundance of cheery yellow golden flowers year-round or nearly so. Very textural dark green leaves offer a fantastic foil to the brilliant blooms. An excellent low-growing shrub for erosion control, hillsides, borders, or containers, they thrive on full sun but little water, making them an excellent choice for desert conditions. Happily, they seem to thrive on abuse, decreasing flower bloom if fed. They can do with a bit of pruning every two to three years to reduce woody growth. Keep in mind that they do well on the coast as well and are fire defensible from 0 to 20’ from structures. It attracts birds and butterflies but it is important to note that the berries are poisonous. In Western Garden Climate Zones 8-10 and 12-24, one can expect terrific success and satisfied customers!
