A Bit More

With upright, blue-green swords that fan out from a central cluster, Dianella revoluta ‘Little Rev’ makes a clean, structural statement in the landscape. Growing 2-3’ tall by 1-2’ wide, this species of  evergreen flax lily hails from Australia, where it is found in sandplains and woodlands. In late spring and early summer, pannicles of delicate blue-violet flowers rise up before producing stunning purple berries. Caution should be exercised as the berries are not for human consumption and can cause disgestive distress. A tough little Aussie, ‘Little Rev’ is cold hardy to 20° F, is drought tolerant (and summer dry), seaside tolerant, and thrives in both sun and shade. Use Dianella revoluta ‘Little Rev’ in containers, planted in masses or as accents.
