A Bit More

The elegant iris-like blooms of this evergreen perennial have massive appeal in a low-maintenance landscape.  Appearing on 2’ tall stalks at intervals that last approximately two weeks, the pale yellow flowers are dotted with dark brown or maroon spots.  The common name of “Fortnight Lily” refers to periods of flowering where individual flowers last only one day but are immediately replaced by another and so on for two weeks.   Long tapering sword-shaped leaves form tidy clumps that emit stems of flowers from spring through fall.  Regular watering is appreciated but they are tolerant of infrequent water once established.
