Pinus eldarica is prized for its upright symmetrical growth habit that never changes during its life. It is very popular in Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, and Utah although it is advisable to avoid southwestern areas in the 4,000-8,000 ft. elevation range. A terrific specimen tree, it is also often used in groups for a windbreak, as a buffer or median tree, and is becoming a popular Christmas tree in some areas. Happily, surface roots are not invasive. Reaching about 30-40 feet with a 25-30 foot spread, its pyramidial crown is handsome from a distance. It thrives in full sun, most well-drained soils and with little supplemental water once established. It is attractive to squirrels and birds and is not susceptible to Verticillium wilt or other pests.
