A BIT MORE...

Rhaphiolepis umbellata ‘Minor’ is a lovely dwarf evergreen that captures attention despite its small (4’ x 4’) stature. The Dwarf Yeddo Hawthorn is native to Japan and does beautifully in Sunset Western Garden zones 8-10 and 12-24. Its foliage is an attractive bronzy red when it emerges fading to handsome dark green. In the springtime, fragrant white flower clusters attract birds and butterflies. Because it grows slowly and has an upright nature, it is low-maintenance, particularly when used as a foundation plant, low hedge, or container plant. Rhaphiolepis umbellata ‘Minor’ does well by the coast and is fire resistant as well. Boething Treeland Farms grows it in 1 and 5 gallon sizes.
