A Bit More

Tiny dark green leaves look like little embossed bits of confetti, and densely clothe the substantial mass of Ceanothus ‘Dark Star’. In the spring, cobalt-blue clusters of flowers almost completely cover the entire plant, making ‘Dark Star’ one of the showiest Ceanothus available. ‘Dark Star’ is particularly suited to coastal areas, where, once established, it seems to get most of the moisture it needs from fog. Inland, light irrigation is a good idea. The broad vase shape of Ceanothus ‘Dark Star’ makes it an excellent choice for either a screening hedge if several are planted in a row, or a lovely accent in a butterfly garden.
