A Bit More

Calamagrostis x acutiflora ‘Overdam’ is a graceful, medium sized, variegated grass, evergreen in milder climates, with lovely pink tinged blossoms that fade to golden blonde as the season progresses.  Feather Reed Grass looks equally appropriate planted as a specimen, or in groups, where the graceful striped leaves provide interest.  Even though this grass doesn’t generally go dormant, cut it back in late winter to ensure clean fresh foliage.  ‘Overdam’ is more tolerant of shade than most Calamagrostis, and should actually be sheltered from hot summer sun.  Calamagrostis x acutiflora leaves vary in height, between 2 to 3 feet, and size is ultimately determined by how much water they get.  ‘Overdam’ is well suited to bog gardens, but can be planted in drier areas as well, if given medium irrigation.
