A Bit More

Acer circinatum is a beautiful deciduous small tree native to Northern California and British Columbia making itself at home amongst the stream banks and moist woods. Its tendency to be sprawling, asymmetrical, and self-rooting in the wild gave birth to its common name. Given wide open spaces, it achieves a lovely upright form, reaching 5-35 feet high with a similar width and can be multi or single trunk as you prefer. The leaves are nearly round, 6-inches wide, and have 5-11 lobes. They are a brilliant green until fall when they turn brilliant red, orange, and/or yellow. It delights in shade or part sun, rich soil, and plenty of water. It also makes an excellent subject for espalier or for use under a shady canopy of trees. Its low branches harbor many woodland animals and birds and the native population often used its branches for making baskets, snow shoes and fish traps. You will delight in this tree’s glorious variety.
