A Bit More

Acer rubrum ‘Red Sunset’® is a fast-growing shade tree known for its reliable brilliant orange-red to red fall color. It has an upright, oval to pyramidal shape, often becoming rounded. It is a commonly used street tree, excellent as a screen. Tolerant of a wide range of soils including clay, loam, and sand, and is adaptable to very wet or quite dry conditions, but prefers moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. More cold hardy, faster, and more drought-tolerant than the October Glory cultivar. Tolerant of urban pollution. Female cultivar. Moderate fire-resistance (low flammability). Cold hardy to -20°F.
