A Bit More

With arching, twisting leaves, it is easy to see why Agave vilmoriniana is known as the Octopus Agave. But expect more than 8 tentacles! The mass of narrow, green-grey leaves mature to 3-4’ tall and 5-6’ wide. In its native Mexico, these agaves grow on rocky slopes and steep cliff sides, and the leaf fibers are made into a brush that contains its own natural soap. Tall flower spikes, which appear after 10 years, bloom tall stalks of green-yellow flowers that produce bulbils that form new plants. Cold hardy to 20-25° F, plant in full sun with good drainage. Use Octopus Agave as an eye-catching specimen in your landscape.
