A Bit More

With new red growth over blue-green foliage, Arctostaphylos ‘John Dourley’ is a colorful native for the landscape. Growing to 3’ tall, this manzanita spreads twice to three times as wide. Light pink umbels begin to bloom in winter and through the spring before bright red berries appear. This selection of manzanita is thought to be a cross between Arctostaphylos pajaroensis and Arctosphylos bakeri. Despite being a drought tolerant native, ‘John Dourley’ is happy in garden conditions and spreads wider with some summer water. Cold hardy to 0° F, plant this manzanita in full sun and use as a low-mounding ground cover.
