A Bit More

Bambusa oldhamii is a non-invasive, clumping bamboo known for its fast growth, thick culms, and towering height. Because of these aspects, it makes a good screen in tall, narrow situations. Often used as a hedge, windbreak, or as an accent plant. Grows in full sun to partial shade; can tolerate fairly deep shade. Prefers humus-rich, well-draining soil but is adaptable to clay, sandy, or gritty soils. It has moderate to high water needs; becomes somewhat drought-resistant when established. Deer-resistant. Verticillium wilt-resistant. Cold hardy to 15°F.
