A Bit More

Berberis ‘Orange Rocket’ has showstopping coral-orange new foliage in the spring that matures to bright green, and then has a ruby red autumnal finale before going dormant for the winter. Bloom time is in the summer, but the tiny yellow flowers are almost lost in the foliage, except for their fragrance. Those flowers develop into beautiful crimson berries in the fall that usually remain on the spiny stems to feed birds long after the leaves have dropped for the winter.

Orange Rocket Barberry displays its best color when planted in full sun, but can also be happy in partial shade. Soil requirements are fairly flexible, but good drainage is a must. ‘Orange Rocket’ may be susceptible to powdery mildew, but has a better resistance to rust than the straight species.
