A Bit More

If you need a sturdy groundcover for a water conscious garden, Bulbine ‘Hallmark’ would be an excellent choice. Happy little star-shaped flowers with frilly stamens bloom from the spring through fall, taking a little break midsummer only in the hottest climates. This succulent has slender, foot-long bright green leaves. The foliage is frost hardy to 20°F, and will resprout in the spring from temperatures as low as 10°F. As an added bonus, Bulbine leaves can be used to sooth burns and skin irritation; the leaves contain the same glycoproteins that make Aloe such a useful plant to have around, and are used in the same way.
