A Bit More

A low-growing, spreading form of California Lilac, Ceanothus ‘Centennial’ grows 1-2’ tall and quickly spreads 6-10’ wide. In late spring, masses of dark purple flowers sit atop its small, dark green leaves, and attract a variety of bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. Plant in full sun and provide regular water during establishment. Once established, ‘Centennial’ is drought and heat tolerant. This selection was introduced in 1992 by Roger Raiche from seed collected in Sonoma County and is a natural cross between Ceanothus foliosus and Ceanothus thrysiflorus griseus. Ceanothus ‘Centennial is a good candidate for large-scale ground covers or trailing over walls.
