A Bit More

Chamaerops humilis is clumping palm that can be a shrub/small tree native to the Mediterranean. It features fan-shaped fronds with sharp, spined petioles and yellow spring flowers. Can be trained to a single trunk, but multi-trunked and clumping are more in demand. Excellent for hedges, privacy screens, and barrier plantings. It is a great standalone specimen in the landscape or in a large container. Tolerates partial shade, but needs full sun to maintain a dense, compact habit. It adapts to most soils (clay, sand, loam) provided they are well-draining. It has low to moderate water use. Very resistant to insect and disease-pests. Fire-resistant. Deer and rabbit-resistant. Cold-hardy to 10°F; fronds may burn but the plant resprouts.
