Cinnamomum camphora is a large, evergreen tree featuring glossy green leaves that emerge in shades of pink or bronze in the spring, intense fragrance, and a wide-spreading, dense canopy. Its habit is excurrent (central leader when young), becoming decurrent (broad, umbrella-shaped canopy) at maturity. It is excellent for use in wide open lawns or public parks. It is adaptable to soil types; grows in clay, loam, sand, acidic, or slightly alkaline soils, provided they are well-draining. Moderate water use, drought-tolerant once established. Prefers full sun but is partially shade tolerant (canopy grows leggy and less dense in deep shade). Deer and rabbit-resistant. Cold hardy to -10°F.
