A Bit More

Cornus ‘Eddie’s White Wonder’ is a fast-growing deciduous tree featuring large spring blossoms and rich red autumn foliage. Flowers are insignificant and form a small central sphere surrounded by large, pure white bracts. It has an excurrent (single leader) habit when young, becoming decurrent (rounded, multiple leaders) with age. This is a cross between western native Cornus nuttali and eastern native Cornus florida. While both parents are highly susceptible to dogwood anthracnose, it is resistant. It grows best in part sun to partial shade. Prefers rich, acidic, humus-rich, well-drained soil. Prone to chlorosis in highly alkaline soils. Moderate water use when young; it requires consistent moisture, but avoid soaked soil. Established trees require occasional watering, especially during dry summer heat waves. Verticillium wilt-resistant. Cold hardy to -10°F.
