Moderately suckering roots are great for erosion control on slopes. It makes an excellent low/dwarf hedge. Other uses include mass plantings, borders, foundation plantings, and rain gardens. Best in full sun to partial shade; tolerates some shade, but red winter stem color is best in full sun. It requires regular moisture; drought-resistant once established, but performs best in medium to wet soil. Adapts to most soils, including heavy clay and swampy/seasonally flooded wet sites.
