A Bit More

Cupaniopsis anacardioides is a fast-growing evergreen tree featuring glossy, dark green, pinnately compound leaflets, insignificant, creamy-green to white flowers, and yellow-orange fruit that contains black, marble-sized seeds. The bark is smooth, grey on the outside, with a distinctly bright orange inner bark. Use as an excellent windbreak, screen, or heavy shade tree. It is best in full sun, but will tolerate some partial shade when young. Low to medium water use; drought-resistant once established. It adapts to a variety of soils (clay, sand, loam) provided they are relatively well-draining. Resistant to Verticillium wilt. Fire-retardant. Deer-resistant. Cold hardy to 20°F.
