Compared to the seed-grown cupressus sempervirens, the cutting-grown ‘Glauca’ features striking blue-green foliage versus plain green, and a denser, more uniform, columnar shape, making it more resistant to opening up or falling out in wind. It has a uniform, tight, formal growth instead of the shaggy look of Cupressus sempervirens. Seed-grown Cupressus produce heavy crops of heavy, unsightly cones that weigh down branches and cause them to fall open. ‘Glauca’ produces very few, if any, fruiting cones, ensuring a cleaner profile.
