Very similar in shape and habit to Dietes vegeta, this Dietes hybrid ‘Lemon Drops’ is distinguished by darker foliage, creamier background petals, and smaller overall size. Like its close cousin, it bears dark green slender long leaves that are mostly vertical with a few weeping leaves that form a tidy clump. It will ultimately reach 2.5’ in height and 2’ in width when planted in its favored partial shade to full sun exposure and well-drained soil. Creamy white iris-like blossoms are punctuated with lemon yellow splotches and a charming accent of purple at the center. These appear from spring through summer in profusion. Once established, this evergreen requires infrequent watering, hence its popularity for areas where drought can be a problem.
