The Dracaena draco is commonly called the dragon tree, a slow-growing, evergreen tree native to the Canary Islands, Madeira, and western Morocco. It has a palmlike habit, notable for its thick, gray bark and blue-green, sword-shaped leaves. This drought-resistant plant thrives in full sun, and is deer resistant. It has white to green flowers in summer and orange fruit in the fall. It produces a red resin called “dragon’s blood” when its bark or leaves are cut. Cold hardy to 20-25°F.
