Festuca rubra ‘Molate’ is a semi-evergreen cool-season, native grass with a dense, mounding habit and featuring fine, bright to bluish-green blades and purplish-tinged flower-spikelets aging to tan/amber in spring to summer. Tolerates more shade than other fescues. It is an excellent no-mow lawn substitute, but can be mowed to 2-4″ if needed. Other uses include erosion control, slope and hillside stabilization, meadow landscape, bioswale, dry shade under oaks. It remains green in mild climates, but can go summer-dormant in hot inland climates and dieback in cold winters. Tolerates seacoast conditions.
