A Bit More

Ilex crenata ‘Sky Pencil’ is an evergreen shrub with an upright, narrow, columnar habit and featuring dark green, spineless, convex leaves that  maintain a uniform shape throughout the plant. Uses include vertical accents, screens, hedges, containers, foundation plantings. Tolerant of intermountain conditions. It is partially shade-tolerant but performs best and keeps its densest columnar form in full sun to partial shade. Adapts to sand, loam, or clay soils, but requires well-draining, acidic to neutral conditions. Soils with a high pH will cause iron chlorosis, making the leaves turn yellow and causing the plant to decline. Medium water use. It needs regular weekly watering, especially in hot summer months. Not drought-tolerant. Deer and rabbit-resistant. Verticillium wilt-resistant. Cold hardy to -10°F.
