Juniperus chinensis ‘Kaizuka’ is an evergreen conifer with an irregular, upright, and twisted habit featuring multiple competing, twisted leaders that split and contort in a swirling fashion creating its wide, irregular crown. Foliage is a fragrant, deep, emerald green. Uses include as a focal point due to it’s unique shape, privacy screens, container. Excellent in intermountain, desert, and seacoast conditions. Moderate water use on installation; Low water use once established. It is highly drought-resistant. It thrives in sandy, gritty, rocky, loam, or heavy clay soils provided there is excellent drainage. It is highly tolerant of alkaline and poor, lean soils. Prefers full sun for optimal dense growth and best color. It is only partially shade tolerant; growing it in heavy shade will result in loose, leggy, or open branching. Deer-resistant. Resistant to Verticillium wilt. Cold hardy to -20°F.
