Lagerstroemia indica x fauriei ‘Arapaho’ is a deciduous tree with a decurrent, upright, vase-shaped habit and featuring dark green leaves that emerge with a wine-red tint in spring and in autumn, the foliage changes into an orange-red to reddish-purple fall color, true cherry red flowers in panicles, and smooth, exfoliating gray bark that peels away to reveal a mottled patchwork of tan and rich mahogany inner bark. Dead-heading or pruning spent flowers will usually produce a new round of flowering. Often grown as a standard and a multi-trunk tree. Non-invasive roots. Uses include as a focal point, screen, hedge, street tree. Excellent in desert landscapes. Tolerates urban heat and pollution. Specifically developed for mildew resistance.
