A Bit More

A large, woody shrub native to northern Mexico into Texas, Leucophyllum x ‘Heavenly Cloud’ is a hybrid of the selection ‘Green Cloud’ and Leucophyllum laevigatum. Standing 6-8’ tall and wide, this shrub has upright branches with small, grey-green leaves. In the summer, small lavender trumpet flowers cover the perennial. In Texas, Leucophyllum is known as Barometer Bush, for its ability to burst in bloom in the face of rising humidity and/or summer showers. Plant ‘Heavenly Cloud’ in full sun and well-drained soil. And once established, water infrequently. Cold hardy to 10° F, this shrub does well in salt spray and is drought tolerant. Trim back and shape in the late winter or early spring in preparation for beautiful summer bloom. Use Leucophyllum x ‘Heavenly Cloud’ as a screen, hedge, or to add height in a deep border.
