A Bit More

Ligustrum japonicum ‘Texanum’ is a broadleaf, evergreen shrub with a broad, upright, rounded, dense habit and featuring thick, waxy leaves, and panicles of white flowers. The flowers are very fragrant. Because of its growth habit, it can be sheared as a hedge, shaped as a topiary, and grown as a single-trunk patio or standard tree. Other uses include screens, windbreaks, foundation plantings. Excellent in seacoast landscapes, urban landscapes, and does well in desert landscapes with regular irrigation. Best in full sun, but it handles partial shade well. It is highly unparticular about soil conditions; adapts readily to sandy, clay, loam, rocky, alkaline, or acidic soils provided there is good drainage. It cannot tolerate standing water or saturated roots. Moderate water use when installed; drought-tolerant once established. Fire-resistant. Deer-resistant. Cold hardy to 0°F.
