Ligustrum vulgare ‘Lodense’ is a broadleaf, deciduous/semi-evergreen shrub with a compact, dense, upright, rounded habit and featuring green leaves in spring and summer that turn a distinct bronze or purplish-bronze color in late autumn/winter before dropping. Leaves will drop completely or partially drop in mild winter climates. Fragrant white flowers are produced in panicles in late spring/early summer and small, ornamental, glossy black berries are produced in late summer and autumn. Uses include low formal hedges and borders, foundation plantings, mass plantings. Excellent in intermountain and urban landscapes and tolerant of seacoast conditions and desert conditions if given regular irrigation. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and can tolerate heavier shade. Very adaptable to soil type; grows well in average, well-drained soils ranging from clay, loam, and sand to chalky conditions. It does not tolerate waterlogged, poorly drained sites. Moderate water use when installed and acclimating; it is drought tolerant once established. Deer-resistant. Cold hardy to -20°F.
