Spring through fall, spires of deep blue blossoms rise above the silver foliage. Compact in form, it grows 1-2’ tall and 2-3’ wide, spreading outward from its rootstock. Native to Mexico, where it is found in the high desert, Salvia chamaedryoides was introduced to Europe in the 1800s. More recently introduced to North America in the 1980s, Germander Sage is a natural addition in our Mediterranean climate. Plant in a sunny spot with well-drained soil, and provide little water once established. Deer resistant, drought tolerant, and cold hardy to 10° F.
